MyLinda King (a Buckman parent) was a piano performance major at the Oberlin Conservatory, studying harpsichord, keyboard tuning, voice and music history. After graduating from Oberlin with a Bachelor Degree in music she pursued graduate work in musicology and ethnomusicology at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. MyLinda was a member of Boka Marimba, Portland's premiere marimba band, for eleven years and was the group’s musical director and manager. Boka Marimba has performed for many of the area’s public events and major festivals as well as a wide variety of private events. MyLinda has been teaching Zimbabwean marimba lessons for the past thirteen years. MyLinda teaches six weekly marimba classes in her home for both adults and children, with a total of 62 current students. She also coached the various performing ensembles in the Portland area. In addition, she is a regular instructor at the annual Northwest Women’s Music Camp and the Zimbabwean Music Festival.
